Mount Teide is Tenerifes highest mountain and the surrounding area makes up the Mount Teide National Park nature reserve. Tourists can take organised trips up Mount Teide and ride the cable car to the top (access to the very peak of Teide is restricted and requires a permit supplied by the National Park offices). A visit up Mount Teide is recommended to experience the rugged volcanic rock formations, snow capped mountain views and spot the rare plant life and animals in this National Park.
